Traces of Neolithic civilisation found in India
The mystery surrounding Kondavid Fort (Andhra Pradesh, India) continues to draw countless archaeologists. Now, a freelance archaeologist, K. Venkateswara Rao, has discovered traces of existence of Neolithic civilisation atop the fortress, the first-of-its kind finding at the site.
Mr. Rao, who retired as deputy director in the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, recently discovered a Megalithic menhir at Karempudi. Mr. Rao says that cup marks, pieces of pottery and various stones found near two caves on the way to the fort from the western entrance have been clinching evidences of existence of Neolithic civilisation.
The two caves were found on either side of the path. The larger of the two measures 50 feet in length, 25 feet in width and the entrance measures 15 feet in height, while the smaller cave measures 25 feet in length, 12 feet in height and 13 feet in width. The cup marks found on rock boulders near the caves represent the most significant evidence of Neolithic civilisation. Cup marks are also usually associated with megalithic burial sites....
